Surfing Cloud 9, Doot Beach, Smoothie Bowl

We were up at 6:30am for our first surf lesson. The tide is high at this time creating good surfing conditions. We met our instructor who has been surfing for over 30 years with 15 years professional. He was the Philippines champion 3 years in a row!

Cloud 9 is the Philippines capital of surfing. From smaller breaks to huge barrels the location has it all. We started on longer boards making it easier to catch the waves. I agreed to do the beginner course with Robin.

The first wave I was up and zooming around. The waves were pretty big for beginner, around 2meters. After a few, robin also made it up. However, after 30 minutes she decided surfing wasn’t for her and took a seat in the sun to watch.

I continued for the full 2 hours. My instructor said that for my next lesson we will search for bigger waves and use a more nimble, smaller, hard board. He placed me at an intermediate level. Robin agreed to come with me but not surf; I will set her up with a coffee and wifi.

For breakfast we went to a smoothie bowl bar. We munched smoothie bowls before going to Doot beach. A quiet, wave free beach with white sand. It was a smaller beach and by 3pm was really busy. We left and went shopping.

Dinner was at a burger place with the most amazing burgers.
