Lombok Life, Kuta, Chill
We arrived in Kuta Lombok two days ago. Lombok is the next major island right of the Gilis and is a second home to any Aussie or Dutch under the age of 35. There are so many of them here. Usually it has good sun, good surf, and good food for a fraction of their home prices. They all move here for months and years at a time.
When we got here, it was raining. Not just a little rain but a full on thunderstorm. We were biking back from the beach (motorbikes allowed again) when the sky opened. We found a bus shelter-like structure and hopped under with 3 other Indonesians. We stayed for 40 minutes watching the lightening strike the ground no more than 3 meters in front of us at one point. We counted the seconds between lightening and thunder with the Indonesians trying to work out how long was left. Eventually we could zoom back to the hostel.
Today was a beach day as robin was feeling under the weather. He actual weather was looking up and we had a day of no rain! We found a secluded beach which was very clean and sat on some passed sun beds with an umbrella. Condition being we had to order some food later to sit there.
The sand in Lombok is special. It’s spherical of 1/2mm. The large reefs surrounding the island produce the small bald as it breaks down. Makes for a really weird feeling on your feet.
We had dinner early at a pizzeria. Bed for robin at 8pm if she can sleep over the music quiz going on downstairs at the hostel!
