Koh Phangan, Mozzies, Street Market, Chico

I am writing this as I lie in a towel looking up at my mosquito net.

Today we left Phi Phi at 9am and arrived in Koh Phangan at 5pm. The journey was fine just long. The second ferry was rougher than the other resulting in a rather queasy Robin. Unfortunately the journey did not factor in a food stop so by the time we spotted a chicken baguette we were just about to chew our arms off.

Arriving in Phangan was easy enough. Rather than being pestered by taxis and hotel transfers we were instead treated like newlyweds leaving the church as flyers and leaflets for parties were confetti thrown around us. Waterfall parties, jungle parties, full moon, and half moon parties were just a handful of those advertised.

Checking into accommodation we were not pleased. Water smelling of sewage, dirty bed sheets, no pillow cases, no blankets, mosquito infested rooms (particularly problematic given Phangan harbors 62% of Thailand’s dengue fever cases- seriously look it up), and used bed sheets. Robin cannot even use her plug with water dripping from the AC pipe into the socket! The only upside is that hostel cat names Chico, a 3 month old kitty that took a liking to Robin and I coming for cuddles and sneaking into the dorm room. We move hostel tomorrow night so for now the mozzie nets have gone up and a complaint has gone in with hopes of a refund.

We explored the local night food market for dinner tasting fried and katsu chicken as well as curry samosa. For dessert we feasted on coconut pancake balls.

Tomorrow we aim to be out of here bright and early to transfer to a, fingers crossed, more Robin and Maddie approves hostel.
