Central Market, Street Food, Craft Museum
We have spent the last few days really getting our steps in.
We visited Kuala Lumpur Central Market which is a light blue warehouse structure filled with stalls selling various goodies from dried fruit and boba tea to palm wood souvenirs and Chinese tapestries. Here we all bought a number of presents for friends and ourselves. Since it is year of the snake there are various Snenny themed merchandise!
Just outside is a street full of food and drinks. Gina fancied a lychee and lemon drink whilst Robin and I got some pandan and palm sugar pancakes.
Across the road is petaling street. Another shopping street but this time a haggling area full of fake shoes, bags, and fake branded clothes.
We went to another food court for lunch before doing an escape room. We escaped the heat by being locked in a room and given 50 mins to escape. The theme was centered around a car crash. We were separated at the start with my rooms being very analytical and number based, Robin and Gina were on the other side with lots of images. As we progressed we met up in the middle. Throughout the room we could hear hospital beeping. We escaped with 8 mins left. The story goes: we are John and trapped in his subconscious. He is in a coma in hospital hence the beeping. I started in the left side of the brain with it being analytical and numbers. Robin and Gina began in the artistic picture based right brain. We met in the middle to piece together what happened. John had caught his girlfriend Jane cheating. He then hit her with his car but in the process he drove into oncoming traffic and ended up in a coma.
After the lovely cheerful escape room we visited the Petronas towers during the day.
The next day we got up at 6:30am to beat the crowds and the heat to the Batu Caves. This complex has a huge golden statue at the entrance along with rainbow painted stairs up into the cave. When Gina and I visited in 2019, the place was amazing and well kept with no litter or funky smells. Unfortunately this time was the antithesis. It was dirty, smelly, and unkept. Paper plates and half finished food was found on every step. There were also a lot of unpleasant smells in and around the complex. Such a shame. It seems to be a recent issue from looking at the google reviews in the last 6 months.
After our brief batu cave visit we went to the batik place to collect our finished batik tote bags. We are all very happy with them. Just next door Gina found a craft village and museum. We visited and learnt about the protected craft industry in ASEAN countries. We also got involved in the crafts available such as keyrings, stamping, and bracelets.
In the evening we visited an Irish pub with the best chips robin and I had munched on during our whole travels. We had a few drinks before walking back to the Petronas towers. We saw them lit up at night and watched the fountains out the back dance to various songs. Then it was time for bed.
