Angkor Wat, Zipline, Pub Street

Up early at 6:30am to prepare for the next part of my birthday surprise. Robin got us a morning zipline experience in Angkor Wat national park. Angkor Wat is the name of the biggest and most famous temple complex in Cambodia, consequently it is also the name given to the national park area which houses a plethora of other temples.

The zipline experience was great with us zipping and zooming through the trees. We spied tarantula nests, red squirrels, sugar gliders, and a lot of termites. More than we saw on the gibbon experience! We soared for 2 hours with a double zipline being the highlight. They drove us to lunch which was 3 dishes tailored to what we said we liked. So far no funny tummies too :)

After lunch we got dropped back at the hotel. We had long enough to shower and change before the tuk tuk came to take us to Angkor Wat. He arrived and we hopped in. Being a sacred place, we had to wear long trousers and cover our shoulders. We both quickly began to sweat through our outfits.

It was interesting to explore the temples and their history with a lot of them being close to 1000 years old. They have been the subject of many coups, foreign invasions, and locations of contested control. Some have even featured in movies such as tomb raider. Pictures pending….

After the temple exploration we got dropped at pub street. A row of bars snd restaurants of extremely cheap prices. We had dinner and a few drinks before playing pool. After a few rounds we called it a night as we have a travel day tomorrow.
