Wat Arun, Iconsiam, MBK, River Cruise- Bye Bangkok!
Today we decided to take the remaining attractions Bangkok had to offer. We packed up, left our bags with hostel reception, and set off to the pier. We boarded the tourist river boat and cruised to Iconsiam. This is the biggest boujiest mall in Bangkok with all your designer brands from Hermès to Louis Vuitton. It even has the only Apple Store in Bangkok which is amazingly rated number 2 in the world in most beautiful Apple Store. Iconsiam has an amazing food court mimicking the street vendors and floating markets without the overbearing heat and humidity. Robin and I enjoyed treats made even more enjoyable by aircon!
Next we hopped on the boat again and sailed to Wat Arun. This temple had undergone a lot of restoration and rebuilding from all of the Thai Kings following Rama I. It has a white undercoat with multicolored porcelain shapes patterning the outside. Each layer is separated by a sacred animal such as monkeys and serpents (naga).
After Wat Arun we boated to the pier closed to Khaosan road where I had a pad kra pao and Robin a dragonfruit smoothie. The MBK Centre was next. This mall houses the same brands as Iconsiam but at a 1/16 of the price. It’s a fake market. The quality of some of the products was surprising. Unlike street markets MBK had some quality products. Robin bought two ‘nike’ shorts and I got a Thai football shirt.
Before long it was time to head back to the hostel for a shower and grab a taxi to the bus station. We boarded the bus to Krabi. It only takes 17 hours…
