US Army Jeep from Hoi An to Hue
We were up at 7am to make our car to marble mountain. We began with a trip up into the caverns and pagodas near Da Nang known as marble mountain. This is because a lot of the mountain is marble and the process of carving temples and cave altars has created magnificent marble worship places. We explored cave after cave and saw the pagodas.
After we took the car to the top of Hai Van pass. This is where we then transferred into the jeep. It was 90% original with a restored engine, original spec tires ( but sources new ones ), original engine. The tarp roof was new as well as the ropes holding it down and paint job. The ride was surprising smooth.
We stopped at a waterfall for cliff jumping and swimming. The water was fresh having just come from down from the mountains. A change from the warms seas we have been swimming in.
Next stop was lunch at the beach. We were served a sea food feast. Mussels, clams, prawns, morning glory, rice, egg pancake. It was delicious.
Refueled we carried on to a fishing village on asias biggest lagoon. We learnt that fishermen lived on the boats in wooden and metal domes and took smaller boats out for fishing.
Our last stop was our hostel. We checked in and immediately went out for food followed by a martini in a rooftop bar.
Off to bed before a big day in Hue tomorrow.
