Slowboat, Pak Beng, Card Games

Today we got the slowboat at 9am. It floats us downstream towards Luang Prabang, a more busy and central city in Laos. In the morning we went and got breakfast and a sandwich to take with us on our journey. The seats we got were 08 and 09 placed in the front on sideways benches parallel to the side of the boat. Not the most practical or comfortable seats but the ones with most air flow and best view.

Out of our window we waited Laotian countryside flow by in the form of jungle, mountains, settlements, and built up villages. No where was busy or crowded; just people living off the land.

We arrived in Pak Beng and checked into our 14 person room. It’s good aircon and we are all from the same slowboat so it isn’t so bad with us all getting up the same time tomorrow.

We visited a bar on arrival called Hive Bar which has been open 10 days! It was great with cocktails, beers, and even a Gordon’s gin and tonic! Robin was thrilled. We spent the evening making new friends, teaching smash ball, playing pools, and playing card games.

Off to bed for we are up early tomorrow for the slow boat.
