Rabbit Island, Bad Weather, Chhing
We got up early to get the 8:30am boat over to rabbit island for $8 per person. However, once we got to the pier we were told that as it’s still off season for tourism the usual boats were not running and we would have to rent out a whole boat to be able to go for $25. With nothing else to do today we agreed and sailed off to Rabbit Island. The sea was choppy and at one point Robin moved to sit opposite me and the boat leered so much that water came over the side!
Once on dry land, we had breakfast and snatched some Sun loungers for the day. Around 11am the sun went in and did not return. The clouds closed in and the sea felt too cold for a swim. We decided to have an early lunch and a gin and tonic before reading our books in the shade.
Rabbit island looked straight out of a 80’s love hotel brochure. Very strange vibes. Big heart shaped tables, brightly painted bungalows, love oriented hotel names. The people staying on the island were a lot older and it made me think that perhaps they met here on a love holiday and came back each year to reminisce.
We left the island at 4pm and stopped by the French bakery for some olive bread and a donut. We went back to the hostel to play some games with Chhing, the owners daughter. We taught her how to make fortune tellers and drew pictures of pandas.
We had an early night as our alarms set for 5:15am
