Nong Khiaw, Broken Bus, Pasta Dinner
Today we got up nice and early at 6:45am to have breakfast. We had omlette from the hostel and then waited for our bus transfer to Nong Khiaw. We waited… and waited… and waited. No bus. 10 more minutes, no bus. 30 mins, no bus. An hour goes by and there is no bus so we let the hostel convince us to try going to the bus station and looking for us transfer there. Whilst we were there we got a message to say our original bus had broken down and we were joining another as a replacement. The replacement had no proper seats for us so we ended up sitting on these hard box dividers in the aisle area for 5 hours.
After an interesting journey, which involved me having to throw back a Dramamine, we arrived in Nong Khiaw and checked into our river side accommodation. We are on the Mekong.
We took a stroll into the main area and sorted an activity for tomorrow. We got some noodles and some snack supplies for tomorrow.
After, we had a shower and head to a near by hotel for dinner. It is run by expats and so had pasta and many German inspired dishes available. We had chicken and cashew nut stir fry and pasta pomodoro! Guess who had what.
Nong Khiaw is a very picturesque village with towering vegetation dense cliffs marking the borders of the riverside town. The best sunset points are up in the cliffs and we are going to try them in a few days.
I had a beer Lao with dinner and despite it being over 7 hours since the Dramamine it reacted with the pill. I became very tired and a little dizzy but didn’t feel bad. Now it’s time for bed at 8pm.
